Mothers Day 2011
I am a writer. I am also a Black woman who is sick and tired of pretending that what I have to say might cause people to roll their eyes up into the top of their heads and wonder when I and everyone else who is born Black in this world continue will just get over it. But getting over "it" requires that we define "it." So today my "it" is moving forward and stepping over. Today I am announcing that I have so much left to offer faculty development that I have created this blog. At some point in the nearest future, I will no longer be the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. I will be returning to my role as a member of the English faculty at Montgomery College. I am excited about the opportunity to apply the best practices of teaching and learning that I have read about over the past three years and have advocated for as part of the workshop offerings for the last three years. Over the course of my writing, there will be times when I have to address the oxymorons that are inevitable when I assess the logic of decision making and the application of whim as a strategic planning strategy. While it is my intention to tell you my truths, I call your attention to the adjective "my." So that while you may not perceive the situation the way I do, please know that this is one of the only places that I have empowered myself to make it all about me.
